Emma Kearney, Y4, Reproductive Biology Tell us about your research For my summer research project, I compared the germ cell quantification method used in Edinburgh for the human foetal and prepubertal testis with three alternative quantification methods previously published. This research is important to help establish an accurate method for evaluating germ cell number, particularly relevant for studies investigating how exposures, such as chemotherapy agents, impair fertility. What were the highlights? I found the research project to be a great experience. I particularly enjoyed engaging in lab meetings and gaining valuable insights into the various ongoing research projects by other lab members. I am very grateful to the BMTO for providing me with a scholarship and the lab group for sharing their expertise, which has enabled me to further my interest in reproductive biology. I am looking forward to applying the knowledge and skills acquired from this experience, further driving my aspiration to pursue a career in research.
