Find out about the research projects our students have been involved in as part of the Summer Research Placement Scholarship 2025. Investigating the protective effects of dexamethasone against cisplatin-induced damage in a Spermatogonial Stem Cell (SSC) model assessed using flow cytometry Seema Banglawala, a Reproductive Biology honours student, investigated dexamethasone as a potential chemoprotectant against cisplatin-induced spermatogonial damage. Using Image Analysis to Investigate Morphological Differences Due to Pax6 Haploinsufficiency in Upper-Layer Projection Neurons in Human Cerebral Assembloids Jamie Peebles-Brown, a Year 4 Anatomy and Development student, used data analysis to investigate the role of Pax6 in brain development in human cerebral organoids. Characterization of Instinctive Defensive Responses to Looming Stimuli in Nlgn3-/y Rats Tianhui Ding, a Neuroscience student, investigated innate defensive behaviours in response to ecologically relevant aerial stimuli using the Nlgn3-/y rat model PrestoBlue Colorimetric Viability Assay for the Identification of Nitrofurantoin Resistant Escherichia coli Rebecca Dorman, a Year 4 Infectious Diseases student, investigated new diagnostic techniques for the identification of antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli). Glucocorticoid Receptor Signaling in the Distal Convoluted Tubule of the Kidney and Circadian Blood Pressure Control Bistra Dimovska, a Year 4 Biomedical Sciences student, researched on glucocorticoid receptor signalling in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney and circadian blood pressure control. Investigating the expression of GABAA receptor subunits in CDKL5 -/y rats to understand seizure mechanisms in CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder (CDD) Maisie Taylor, Year 4 Neuroscience student, explored how insights from rat models can improve our understanding of symptoms associated with CDKL5 deficiency disorder (CDD) in humans.
