Pre-Honours Teaching:

I have been heavily involved in the design, development and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment at pre-honours level. I am currently the course organiser for ‘Biomedical Sciences 1’, a core first year course for students on the Biomedical Sciences BSc Honours programme.

Reproductive Biology Teaching:

I also teach reproductive biology across the Biomedical Sciences programme on ‘Medical Biology 1’, ‘Biomedical Sciences 2’, ‘Reproductive Biology 3’ and a Senior Honours elective, ‘Conception to Parturition’. Additionally, I am the Convenor for the Reproductive Biology Senior Honours Exam Board.

Research and scholarship: My research interests focus on pedagogy, particularly in assessment and feedback.  I am interested in developing innovative approaches to teaching and assessment, and investigating the impact of these on student learning.

Leadership roles:

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and I mentor colleagues who are undertaking the Edinburgh Teaching Award to gain accreditation with Advance HE.

In 2017, I co-founded a local Edinburgh Teaching Award mentoring scheme (with Dr Ruth Deighton): the Biomedical Sciences Edinburgh Teaching Award (BMS-EdTA). I am currently a co-academic lead of the BMS-EdTA with Dr Allison Wroe.

Additionally, I co-convene the Junior Honours Exceptional Circumstances Committee (and previously convened the Pre-Honours Special Circumstances Committee for 3 years).
