Nuffield Research Placement in 3D Scanning for Anatomy Teaching

This summer we were joined by Lily Wilson, a current student from Inveralmond Community High School in Livingston.

Lily was supported by the Nuffield Foundation Research Placement scheme that places school students with scientists to carry out their own research project.

Lily worked on a project to investigate the use of 3D scanning technology to produce interactive models of animal skulls. She used several different skulls from the Anatomical Museum’s own collection and built a website to display her interactive models and communicate her findings to the public.

Lily presented her work at the Nuffield Foundation Celebration Event at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on the 2nd September 2019 alongside her supervisors, Jennifer Paxton and Victoria McCulloch.
