Options at the end of the examination period. Image The Anatomy Act allows us to retain a body for up to 3 years at which point the body must be disposed. The University will be responsible for the safe keeping, preservation and examination of the body until such time as cremation is required. Should you wish to be buried, this would have to be arranged by your next-of-kin and the remains will be returned to them at the end of the examination period. Normally we do not inform the next-of-kin that the cremation is taking place unless you have indicated that you wish the ashes to be retained. Should they wish to be informed of the cremation this can be arranged but there will be no official cremation service. All cremation costs will be met by the University.
