On Saturday 26th January, 758 visitors attended the Museum Open Day and took part in our Burke and Hare walking tours around the Old Town, while later in the week over 200 people came to the ‘Do your looks betray you?’ evening event. Later in the same week the museum also welcomed two classes from James Gillespie’s Primary School who visited the museum as part of their ‘Darwin Trail’.

Curator Malcolm MacCallum said Our Anatomical Museum has one of the largest anatomy collections in Scotland. Some of the specimens, models and preparations that you can see in the bespoke Victorian display cabinets are still in use for teaching today. The whole collection tells the story of how anatomy has been taught at the University of Edinburgh over the last 300 years. The Open Days are proving to be increasingly popular, and the range of audiences we attract is steadily increasing. We’re planning more events for the rest of 2019 so keep up to date with the latest news on our Facebook page and Twitter.
