This August the Anatomical Museum’s phrenology collection, one of the most important of its kind, will be featured in talks, a radio programme and an exhibition in Edinburgh. Image Jim Naughtie, BBC Radio 4, and Professor David Price Professor David Price will be talking about Phrenology and the Anatomical Museum’s phrenological collection as part of The Royal Society of Edinburgh’s ‘Tea and Just Talk’ series on Tuesday 6th August (1pm) and Wednesday 7th August (4pm). During the programme Prof Price and presenter Jim Naughtie will discuss the front cover of The Edinburgh Evening Courant (from 1827) in which a phrenology lecture is featured. Finally, from 16th August, the exhibition ‘Phrenology – A collection re-discovered’ will be on display on the 6th floor of the Main Library at George Square. The exhibition will showcase around 35 skull casts, life masks and death masks collected by phrenologists in the 19th century, some of which have not been shown in public before.
