Together with co-applicant Mr Norry Leonard, a local primary school teacher, Dr Jennifer Paxton was awarded funds from The Royal Society to undertake the ‘Building Body Parts’ project. The pupils of Victoria Primary School in Newhaven will be learning about the human body and how tissue engineers make use of novel techniques such as 3D cell culture and 3D printing to make replacement body parts. They will finish the project in June, with a visit to the University of Edinburgh, a guided tour of the historic Anatomical Museum and a chance to visit Dr Paxton’s tissue engineering laboratory.
