During Brain Awareness Week (March 10th–15th), The ATLAS Facility and Art Wednesdays teamed up to host a fun and informative event focused on the anatomy of the human brain. The public was invited to spend an evening at The Anatomical Museum, where Dr Helena Chaytow gave an engaging talk on brain anatomy. Participants then had the opportunity to paint their own plaster brain model. The plaster brain models were created at The ATLAS Facility using 3D printed MRI scans, silicone molds and plaster by Dr Jennifer Paxton (ATLAS Facility lead). The painting session and Anatomical Museum information was led by Victoria McCulloch, the organiser of Art Wednesdays. Participants expressed their creativity through a range of painted designs, from anatomically detailed depictions to vibrant rainbow-inspired artwork. You can view the colourful creations in our display by the Elephant Skeletons in the BMTO foyer, Old Medical School. These painted brains will also be 3D scanned for a digital exhibition set to launch in April. Publication date 20 Mar, 2025
