Art and Anatomy Edinburgh presents 'Danny Quirk - Living Lectures'

This event is designed to give you a brief history of the relationship between art and anatomy, followed by an opportunity to get a glimpse of what lies under the skin through art.  It is not detailed anatomy teaching, but a look at the anatomy doctors use every day, and how that knowledge has been learned and passed on over the years.  We will take you through history from the incredible artworks of Leonardo da Vinci to the cutting edge life size 'virtual cadvers' being used to teach anatomy in the University today.

NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. It doesn't matter if you're a consultant surgeon, expert artist or have never painted before and don't know your knee bone from your hip bone; everyone is welcome.

We are excited to present Danny Quirk, an American artist who's avant-garde style of illustration has led to him becoming world-renowned.  He uses  liquid latex and markers to 'dissect' and create captivating pieces of anatomical artwork - using the human body as his canvas.

Following the talks there will be the opportunity to partake in Art and Anatomy workshops, visit the museum, visit the old artist's flat and see a demonstration of the Anatomage table.

About Art and Anatomy Edinburgh

Art and Anatomy Edinburgh was founded in 2014 by Nichola Robertson, anatomy teaching fellow, and Meg Anderson, junior surgical trainee.  By joining forces with artist Kimmie Simpson, the project was originally designed to teach medical students innovative ways to learn anatomy using different art media from clay to body paint.  We are now proud to be able to open some workshops to the public.
