The Stabilising Effect of the Anterior Oblique Ligament at the Trapeziometacarpal Joint of the Thumb

MSc Human Anatomy graduate Mark McCann and supervisor Phillipa Rust have their biomechanical cadaveric study published in the Archives of Bone and Joint Surgery.

Together they investigated the role of the anterior oblique ligament (AOL) and its capacity in preventing directional subluxation at the trapeziometacarpal joint. Their findings provide support for surgical reconstruction of the AOL as the primary surgical stabilizer against subluxation of the thumb in the dorsoradial plane. 

The paper has been published in The Archives of Bone and Joint Surgery.
