Wai Kit found the research experience in different fields helped in his decision to pursue a PhD in developmental neuroscience. What did you get out of the course?Coming from a background of genetics and molecular biology, I had interests in several research areas. The unique course structure of having lab rotations and seminars exposed me to a wide range of research areas satisfied my need to explore different research areas. The research experience in the different fields allowed more insight in each of the research areas that I am interested in such as cell communication and genetics & disease themes which I have undertook. This helped in my decision to pursue a PhD with the research theme of developmental neuroscience. What are you doing now?I am furthering my studies in pursue of a PhD in Biomedical Science (Integrative Physiology) at the Centre of Integrative Physiology looking into role of heparan sulfate in brain development.Where are you hoping to go next?I see myself pursuing research in an academic setting where in addition to research, I am able to teach. Ultimately, I hope to lead my own research group as I enjoy solving problems and making discoveries as it gives me a great sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Knowing that my research would contribute to the existing body of knowledge also gives me a sense of achievement.Cell communicationGenes and disease This article was published on 2024-08-05
