BBSRC ALERT 2024 Success!

01/08/2025

We have been successful in our application to the BBSRC ALERT 2024 call to acquire a Nikon/CrestOptics X-Light V3/DeepSIM dual camera spinning disk confocal microscope with a DeepSIM super-resolution module.

The CrestOptics Spinning disk unit, coupled with the Nikon Ti2 and dual Photometrics Kinetixs cameras allows for simultaneous 2 colour imaging of large (up to 25 mm), flat, fields of view. Interchangeable disk units will allow optimal fast live cell imaging (>1000fps) or imaging deep into tissue. The DeepSIM module can achieve resolutions down to 100 nm but can be used to give a 2-fold resolution improvement for nearly all objectives. With a spectral excitation range of 200 - 750 nm you will be able to broaden your choice of fluorophores into the near-IR.

The inclusion of Nikon JOBS and General Analysis 3 software modules will allow development of automatic imaging and analysis routines as well as event driven microscopy routines.

The microscope will initially be installed in the Hugh Robson Building, George Square in late 2025 and will relocate to QMRI in late 2026. The microscope will be available to internal and external academic researchers and interested commercial clients. Please contact Iain Porter for more information.

I would like to thank all the co-applicants from INCR and across CMVM for their help in putting the application together and I look forward to working on some interesting projects.

Nikon AXR-NSPARC

15/04/2025

We had to say goodbye to our trusty Nikon A1R confocal but we would like to welcome it's replacement in the form of the Nikon AXR-NSPARC.

With improved resonant scanner, more sensitive detectors and super-resolution NSPARC detector this system is approximately 5-fold faster than our previous system and can achieve resolutions down to 100nm. It is also a superb live-cell imaging confocal!

More information about this system can be found here.
