Congratulations to Dr Qi Zhou, Academic Track Lecturer in Biomedical Informatics (Zhejiang), for his award in this year’s Royal Society of Edinburgh Awards, recognizing work that seeks to improve the precision of drug delivery for serious medical conditions. The award will support Dr Zhou’s research into the electromagnetic control of therapeutic microcarriers—drug-carrying agents that can be guided through the body using magnetic fields. The project aims to develop reliable methods for steering these agents through complex physiological flows, with potential applications in the treatment of critical neurological and cardiovascular diseases. “Qi is a valued member of the team at ZJE and I am not surprised that his work has been recognised. This is an outstanding achievement, and on behalf of my colleagues I extend the heartiest congratulations.” Prof Sue Welburn Executive Dean, ZJE Institute Dr Zhou’s project, titled Electromagnetic Control of Therapeutic Microcarriers for Targeted Drug Delivery, places him among a select group of researchers supported this year by Scotland’s national academy and highlights the growing role of cross-disciplinary research in addressing complex health challenges at the University of Edinburgh.
