The ZJE team attended the annual CBBC Education Forum in Glasgow this month. The event was hosted in collaboration with the UK-China Joint Institute Alliance (Alliance), which is a pioneering network of UK and Chinese higher education institutions working to boost the development and management of UK China transnational education (TNE) joint institutes and to drive innovation and quality TNE delivery in China. The Alliance was set up in 2017 and is supported by the British Council and the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE). It currently has 45 member joint institutes, and is co-chaired by the University of Edinburgh and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics.Professor Sue Welburn, Executive Dean of the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJE) and UK Co-Convenor of the Alliance, was invited to speak on the subject of progressive transnational education (TNE), sharing best practices and lessons learned since the establishment of the ZJE in 2016. As the University of Edinburgh’s flagship overseas institution for education and scientific research, the partnership facilitates an ambitious global biomedical research agenda between two well-matched world-leading universities with a common vision of developing the next generation of biomedical scientists. The Forum was followed by the annual CBBC Awards Dinner, at which ZJE won the Education Institutional Partnership of the Year Award in 2024 in recognition of its pioneering role in the arena of transnational research-led education. This annual event helps showcase the efforts of staff and students in both the UK and China who have and continue to work on transformative partnerships between Institutions that lead the way for progressive TNE.
