Sophie Mok, an Anatomical Sciences PhD student and previous MSc in Human Anatomy graduate successfully defended her thesis on the 23rd January 2026! Sophie’s thesis, entitled ‘Integrating anatomical morphometrics into tissue-engineered strategies for ankle ligament repair’ was supervised by Dr Jennifer Paxton and funded by the Anatomical Society. In her work, Sophie used information about the size, shape and characteristics of human lateral ankle ligaments to produce a tissue engineered model of the calcaneofibular ligament. This multidisciplinary work involved techniques in human anatomy, bioengineering and materials science and is a wonderful example of how anatomical research and design will improve options for human health.Sophie is now an Anatomy Teaching Fellow at Trinity College Dublin, and we wish her every success with her future career!
