NHS Scotland – Higher Surgical Training – HPB Teaching Day

Anatomy@Edinburgh is delighted to be collaborating with NHS Scotland to deliver a series of regional teaching days for Higher Surgical Training (HST).

The first of these training days focused on key aspects of hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery, including reviews of surgical and operative anatomy, principles of diagnostic and intra-operative imaging, along with scenario-based discussions. Individual sessions combined small group teaching and interactive practical work, using bespoke cadaveric specimens and hands-on liver ultrasound. We are very grateful to Fujifilm for their generous sponsorship of this event. Future teaching days will focus on the surgical anatomy and operative approaches in upper GI, colorectal, abdominal wall, trauma, breast and endocrine surgery.

These individual specialty days for Higher Surgical Training (HST) are designed to complement the regional anatomy programme for Core Surgical Training (CST), established in collaboration with NHS Scotland in 2018, with the goal of supporting the study of surgical anatomy throughout training. More information about the courses and their educational approach can be found in the following publications:
