MSc anatomy students published an interesting study in Frontiers in Surgery

A team of former MSc Anatomy students Raghad Abdulaziz Almansour, Sumar Chan, Jun Mun Teoh, Rasyidah Rehir, Abeer Saleh Alshaya, under the supervision of Abduelmenem Alashkham, have published a study in Frontiers in Surgery documenting a rare coeliac trunk origin of bilateral inferior phrenic arteries.

Their cadaveric research in the Anatomy Department at the University of Edinburgh found that one-third of specimens exhibited this variation. The study highlights the clinical importance of recognising such anatomical variation to improve hepatocellular carcinoma treatment and prevent complications during upper abdominal surgeries.
